Indian Tour To Erase Cricket South Africa's Long-Standing Financial Losses

An Indian contingent of as many as 45 cricket players left for South Africa earlier this week to feature in an extensive bilateral tour. The tour will consist of three T20 games and as many ODIs before concluding with a 2-game test series.

Moreover, the BCCI-appointed selection committee picked up three different squads for each format to allow chances for every player currently in the team management's imminent future plan.

Having said that, the upcoming India tour seems more beneficial for Cricket South Africa compared to India. As per a report from Cricbuzz, the tour is likely to generate a revenue of $ 68.7 million, enough to cover financial losses incurred by the board over the past three years.

CSA reported a nearly $30 million financial loss in the past three years combined. Not only that but while BCCI's annual profit is $2.25 billion, CSA earned a mere $47 million in profits last year, which amounted to 2.09% of the Indian board's total yearly income.

Undoubtedly, India is a giant cricketing nation with respect to talent as well as money involved. The number of eyeballs any Indian series manages to grab is tenfold compared to major sporting tournaments.

Thus, the extensive tour couldn't come at a better time for Cricket South Africa. They have the talent required to excel in the ICC tournament, as they showed a little glimpse of it during the ODI World Cup.

However, the lack of monetary remuneration and attention has dampened their growth. With this tour, CSA has an opportunity to put the money earned to good use.

The excess left after filing the losses should be directed toward player development and the construction of a properly functioning domestic structure.

India's tour of South Africa will commence on 10th December with the T20 series and conclude on 7th January after the final test of the 2-game series comes to an end.
