In a significant development, the International Cricket Council has announced the schedule for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle. The WTC 2023-25 will begin with the high-voltage Ashes series between two arch-rivals, England and Australia and conclude with a two-match series between Sri Lanka and Australia.

Just like the first couple of editions, the third leg of the tournament will also span over two years, comprising 67 matches between nine teams- Australia, England, India, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

Talking about India, the two-time finalists will host New Zealand, England and Bangladesh, while playing against Australia, West Indies and South Africa in their away fixtures. Unlike the previous editions, this time the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will consist of five matches as decided by the two cricket boards upon mutual agreement.

The big three, i.e. India, Australia and England will play the most games in the cycle, featuring in 20, 21 and 22 Tests, respectively. The teams will be rewarded twelve points for a win, six for a tie and four for a draw, with the final standings being determined by the percentage of points obtained. After the group-stage concludes, the final will take place between the two top teams in the points table.

Meanwhile, the second edition of the tournament saw Australia decimate India by a whopping 209-run margin to lift the prestigious WTC mace. Chasing 444, India started the fifth day on 164 for three, with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane batting on the middle. However, Scott Boland triggered the collapse by dismissing Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in a single over. After that, it took a matter of time for India to crumble and gift the game in Australia's hands.
