In a latest development, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to allow spectators at the Eden Gardens for the upcoming T20I series against the West Indies.
Following the culmination of ongoing One-day International rubber, the Rohit Sharma-led unit will lock horns with Kieron Pollard's men in three T20Is in Kolkata.
The ODI series taking place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad behind closed doors as part of Covid-19 related precautions.
The T20I rubber was also initially scheduled to take place without the presence of fans in the stadium. However, the Cricket Association of Bengal has now placed a request to the Indian board to reconsider its decision.
In a statement, CAB said, "The matter relating to the hosting of the three T20 international matches between India and West Indies were discussed threadbare," CAB said in a statement.
"It was informed to the members that the CAB has requested the BCCI to allow spectators at the venue. Feedback from the BCCI is awaited. CAB is still hopeful of a positive outcome," it added.
In addition to this, the Apex Council Meeting also ratified the decision to renovate the existing flood light System at the Eden Gardens.
The council also approved the fixtures and tournament rules for the upcoming first and second league division tournaments.
"Registration window for the players has been extended till 28 February 2022 keeping in mind the current relaxations accorded by the State Government so that it's easier for the clubs, units as well as the players to come and complete their registration formalities," said CAB.
The T20I matches will be played at the Eden Gardens on February 16, 18 and 20 respectively. This will be the first time that the Eden Gardens will stage an International match since hosting India's maiden day-night Test against Bangladesh back in 2019.
