I was told that I'd lead the Pakistan side after 2015 World Cup: Ahmed Shehzad

Out of the Pakistan team since 2019, opening batter Ahmed Shehzad, who recently made some startling revelations, has now claimed that former Chairman Najam Sethi offered him Pakistan's captaincy post the 2015 World Cup.

The right-hander, who earlier blamed Pakistan's former coach Waqar Younis for his ouster from the team, has asserted that Najam Sethi told him that he is 'capable enough' to face the world media and could positively present Pakistan's image.

"Najam Sethi met me in official meetings before the 2015 World Cup. In those meetings, he categorically told me that he was considering me for captaincy," said Shehzad while speaking to a local media outlet.

"He said that I was capable enough to handle the world media and I could present Pakistan's image in front of the world positively," he added.

Shehzad added that after the 2015 World Cup, Sethi said he would play a vital role after Misbah-ul-Haq's exit as Pakistan captain.

"We think that you speak well and you dress well. Plus you're performing brilliantly, you're our asset. Since this was Misbah-ul-Haq's last tournament, he said I would lead the Pakistan side after the 2015 World Cup and I should behave accordingly," he further stated.

Shehzad made his Pakistan debut in 2009 and has played 13 Tests, 81 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 59 T20 Internationals (T20Is), where he amassed 982, 2605 runs, and 1471 runs, respectively. He last played for Pakistan in 2019 in a T20I against Sri Lanka.
