Faf du Plessis is an able captain, someone I have a lot of respect for: Virat Kohli

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli is all set to play under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis in the 2022 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). After taking over from Daniel Vettori in 2014, Kohli led the Challengers until the 2021 edition. After he stepped down, RCB appointed Du Plessis as their skipper after bagging the former South Africa skipper for INR 7 crore in the mega-auctions.

The 33-year-old, who captained RCB to the final of the 2016 IPL, lauded Du Plessis for his style of captaincy. The Delhi-born, who's also the all-time leading run-scorer in the IPL, said that the RCB players have shown a lot of respect towards Du Plessis, who came to the Bengaluru-based franchise from Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Kohli, who's there with RCB since the inaugural edition back in 2008, put forth his opinions on the Proteas veteran while speaking on the RCB official website.

We got to make a plan around his vision: Virat Kohli on Faf du Plessis

"He is a very able captain, someone that I have a lot of respect for. Even as an opposition captain, [he is] someone that I always admired in the way he went about things, [and] in the way he went about, [he] got his team to rally around him. That is the most important thing for any skipper," Kohli commented, according to the RCB website.

"Even here you can see he is at ease with everyone in the squad, the whole environment in general. And people have a sense of respect for him where if he is making plans or talking about stuff, people are saying 'hold on, let's get into it, listen to it, we got to make a plan around his vision'," he added.

RCB is set to start their campaign in IPL 2022 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by Mayank Agarwal, on Sunday, March 27, at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The Challengers have reached the IPL final thrice but are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy. It remains to be seen if du Plessis' can turn the team's fortunes around.
