“I’m also focusing on my batting for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” says an excited Diwesh Pathania of the Services team. In a conversation with OneCricket, Pathania talked about the mood of the team and how the players have been managing their fitness after the lockdown.
Talking about the preparations for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Pathania told that the side has got a good time to train for white-ball tournament. “We have got good time to practice for white-ball tournament so we are pretty positive in getting some good results. Earlier, we didn’t really get much time to practice with the white ball as we used to have days cricket for the major part of the year. So, in my opinion the time we have got to practice with white ball should pay us in a fruitful manner. Moreover, we have been preparing specifically for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for now,” he said.
“The players are preparing pretty well for the tournament and especially focusing on the fitness,” the righ-handed player further added.
The 31-year-old discussed about the regime that the players follow. “We have our base in Hyderabad where we follow a different routine. In the morning we have our fitness sessions with the respective coaches, in the afternoon, we take care of the ground and maintain it while the skill practice takes place in the evening. This is the routine that we follow throughout the year while the matches are not on,” he told.
“When the tournaments are about to start, there is a slight tweak in the routine. We focus more on our skill training,” he added.
Pathania who hails for Pathankot suggested few names who he thinks might come out to be good picks for the team. “Ravi Chauhan, Rahul Singh, Rajat Paliwal are some of the players who are pretty good. The team is pretty good and all the players are working very hard.”
The Services fast bowler played the Deodhar Trophy 2019-20 for India C. When asked about how his experience would help the team, Diwesh explained, “I want the players to be more consistent and don’t repeat the mistakes they have made previously.”
“The players are also learning that they can’t be complacent and have to perform consistently,” he added.
When asked whether the players are motivated as they are coming to play after a long halt due to COVID-19, the fast bowler told that the players are motivated and have the zeal to get positive results for themselves. “The players are getting an opportunity to play after a huge gap so they are really motivated and looking forward to take the field. The hunger to do well can be seen among the players.”
