Jay Shah the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will now officially represent India in all of the International Cricket Council's meetings. The decision was taken in the 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held in Ahmedabad.
Confirming this news, a member of the BCCI on account of anonymity said, "Jay will be on the ICC Board as BCCI representative.”
Prior to Shah, Board President Sourav Ganguly had been India’s representative to all ICC meetings. However, the former India captain recently suffered a heart ailment for which he underwent angioplasty and is being monitored by a team of doctors at his home in Kolkata.
The Board member also divulged details about one of the most important issues of tax exemption for the ICC World Cups, two of which are scheduled to be hosted in India in 2021 and 2023. The ICC has asked the Indian board to get a full tax exemption for the tournament from the Indian government.
"We are set to host the 2021 T20 World Cup as well as the 50-over World Cup in 2023. We need to speak to the government to see if we can get tax exemption and for this, we have decided that our secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Dhumal will speak to the government," ANI quoted the board member as saying.
