ENG vs IND | Jasprit Bumrah creates new world record

Indian stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah piled on further misery on England's bowlers on the first morning of the Edgbaston Test as he smashed 35 runs off Stuart Broad to create a new world record for most runs in an over.

It all happened in the 84th over of the Indian innings when Broad, just like his English counterparts, continued with the short pitch ploy against the Indian tail, but to fatal effect.

Broad kept dishing it short, and Jasprit kept pulling, top-edging it for a four or a six.

The first ball was a proper short one, which Bumrah top-edged for a four. Broad followed it up with another ill-directed bouncer, which was too high for even Sam Billings to reach. The ball proceeded to go over Bumrah's head for another four.

Judged a wide, it only added add salt to Broad's wounds. But it was just the beginning.

Broad completely lost his marvels as he overstepped the popping crease and dished out another harmless short delivery, which Bumrah once again top-edged for a six.

The experienced pacer then tried to bowl a yorker but ended up serving a juicy full-toss, which the Indian captain almost swung over a six over mid-on.

Broad tried to dish out a good length delivery on the next delivery, but such was his luck that Bumrah managed to inside edge it for another four.

By now, Broad had utterly lost it, and once again, he followed up a good length delivery with a harmless short ball.

Bumrah, seeing the ball like a football by now, almost lost his footing but ended up swivelling it for a four to make it 34 off the over with one ball to spare.

Broad finally got it right on the last delivery of the over as he dished out a perfect yorker and nearly ran Jasprit out at the non-striker end.

But the carnage was well and truly complete. And by the time the over ended, Bumrah became the proud record-holder of most runs in an over by a batter in Test cricket.

The record till now was held by Brian Lara, who smashed Robin Petersen for 28 back in 2005-06.

Bumrah's enterprising knock of 31* (16). Later Mohammad Siraj's batting streak was cut short by James Anderson to end India's innings at 416.
