ENG vs IND | I just try to put the ball in the good area: Matthew Potts on dismissing Kohli

The Durham-based cricketer was bowling the 25th over of the first innings, and the pacer bowled the second delivery on the sixth-stump line in the corridor of uncertainty, swinging in.

Kohli was unsure whether to leave the ball or not, so he went forward for half a defence, following it with half a leave. However, the ball took Kohli's bat's inside edge and chopped onto stumps as the batter was dismissed by playing on.

Kohli was dismissed after scoring 11 runs in 19 deliveries with 2 fours as India lost their fourth wicket for 71 runs. In his short career thus far, Potts has dismissed Kane Williamson thrice and got Kohli out the day before yesterday.

Potts comments on dismissing Kohli and Williamson in his first encounters

When asked whether he's making a habit of getting the best batter of the opposition, Potts replied that irrespective of the batter, he always attempts to put the ball in the right areas on the pitch.

"I wouldn't say making a habit of it (getting the opposition's best player out), I just try to put the ball in the good area, and then if something happens, then it does,"

"Virat (Kohli) is obviously a great player. It's obviously nice to notch that one and have it there. But if it was any batsman, I'd look to put the ball there with the same intent. It just happens that it was Virat," said Matthew Potts in a post-day chat with broadcasters Sky Sports.

Matty Potts praises Rishabh Pant for his sensational knock

After the end of the first day's play, Potts said England made a good shift towards the end of day 1 of the fifth Test. He also hailed the centurion Rishabh Pant for his innings.

"I think we put in a good day yesterday, a good shift. The boys are coming back today with the intent to clean them up, and the batters are excited to get back out there on what seems to be a good pitch,"

"Every day has been tough, but you learn to enjoy that, and yesterday was the first time I've been put under pressure. Rishabh (Pant) played an absolute blinder of a knock. You could hit through the line on that,"

Potts said he's keeping things simple to give his best for England with the ball in hand.

"Nice to progress and get more and more into the frame. It's something that I have taken in my stride. It's just the same game, but you are wearing a different shirt and cap apart from some external pressures. I am just trying to keep it simple and give my best," concluded Potts.
