Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja found himself in an frustrating situation during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. His bat failed the standard gauge test conducted by the on-field umpire. The incident occurred in the fifth over of CSK’s innings, immediately after the dismissal of Sam Curran.

Ravindra Jadeja's Bat Fails The Gauge Test

As Ravindra Jadeja walked out to the crease, on-field umpire stopped him to check his bat using the bat gauge. The umpire passed the bat through the gauge multiple times, only for it to be repeatedly rejected. 

Jadeja, visibly agitated, tried to force the bat into passing the test by smashing it on the ground a couple of times. Still, the bat failed to meet the prescribed measurements, prompting Jadeja to change his bat. 

What Is The Bat Gauge Test Rule? 

According to the rules, the bat must not exceed 38 inches in length and must conform to maximum limits of 4.25 inches in width, 2.64 inches in depth, and 1.56 inches in edge thickness. 

SRH's Much-Needed Win vs CSK

Batting first at home in a must-win fixture, the five-time champions were bowled out for just 154 runs. Ayush Mhatre made significant contribution with the bat and made 30 runs of 19 balls. Dewald Brevis made a fluent 42 off 25 balls, while Deepak Hooda chipped in with 22 off 21 to help CSK breach the 150-run mark.

Harshal Patel starred with the ball for SRH, claiming 4 wickets for 28 runs. He was well supported by skipper Pat Cummins (2/21), and Kamindu Mendis (1/26). The experienced duo of Mohammed Shami (1/28) and Jaydev Unadkat (2/21) also made significant contributions to exploit CSK’s vulnerability under pressure.

What Is Wrong With CSK This Season?

 For CSK, this marked their seventh loss in nine games, leaving them on the brink of elimination. Now needing to win all of their remaining five matches, the team must also rely on other results to stay in contention for playoffs. 

The loss, compounded by confusion over player roles, lack of batting confidence, and inconsistent bowling, has left the iconic franchise scrambling for answers.
