Ahead of their pivotal IPL encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings’ spin coach Sunil Joshi highlighted strategic preparations and lauded KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer’s growth against pace and spin.
With PBKS fifth and KKR seventh, the clash could reshape the playoff race, with Joshi emphasising adaptability and leveraging player strengths to counter opposition tactics. Joshi underscored the importance of match-ups and backing under-fire overseas players, stressing that one impactful performance could reignite their form.
Spin Coach lauds Shreyas Iyer's Evolution
However, Joshi spoke about Shreyas' growth as a player in the game and lauded his calibre ahead of the match in a media interaction.
"If you look back at Shreyas' contribution in the last 8-10 months, from the Champions Trophy onwards, playing not only against fast bowling but also against spin has become more consistent. He has shown hunger and is ready to accept every challenge he comes across,” Joshi stated.
Joshi further lauded Shreyas Iyer's hard work and his leadership which is motivating the Punjab Kings camp.
“For any player of that calibre, you accept every challenge, every ball. I am sure that he has done some great work behind the scenes, which is giving him results. It's great news and also provides good momentum to carry forward as a leader,” Joshi added.
Joshi Praises Chahal's Form
He also acknowledged Yuzvendra Chahal’s resurgence, referencing the spinner’s four-wicket haul against KKR earlier this season. PBKS’s focus remains on balancing aggression with calculated risks to exploit KKR’s inconsistent campaign.
“I think Yuzi is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history. Big-match players don't need to be reminded of what they are capable of. They can always make a difference. It's just the confidence and bowling in the right areas that help them perform strongly.”
Addressing Overseas Players’ Form
On PBKS’s overseas contingent, Joshi stated, “It's just a matter of one good game, either through bat or ball. Tactically, we need to see which player suits the opposition we are up against and how many match-ups there are."
With both teams seeking momentum, PBKS will aim to exploit KKR’s vulnerabilities, while the hosts look to leverage Iyer’s homecoming to revive their faltering campaign.
