In an unprecedented show of digital viewership, Disney+ Hotstar set a new record as a staggering 3.5 crore people tuned in to watch the electrifying face-off between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in Match 12 of World Cup 2023 on Saturday.

IND vs PAK: Record-breaking viewership as India Beats Pakistan in World Cup clash

The viewership statistic is the highest ever recorded concurrency for any cricket match, across all formats, highlighting the passion and excitement that the India-Pakistan cricketing rivalry stokes.

The contest, which took place at the colossal Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, saw the Men in Blue continue their unbeaten World Cup streak against Pakistan, taking the tally to an impressive 8-0. The mammoth viewership numbers are proof of not just the passion for the sport in the subcontinent but also the increasing clout of digital streaming platforms in broadcasting major sporting events.

For the millions who witnessed the match on Disney+ Hotstar, the highlights were aplenty. Set a target of 192, Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, showcased brilliance from the beginning, racing to fifty in just 36 balls.

Although Shubman Gill played a brisk cameo and Virat Kohli faced an unexpected batting hiccup, Rohit's fierce 63-ball 86 and his solid 77-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer ensured India's grip on the match. Iyer notched an unbeaten half-century, helping India clinch the game with a massive 19.3 overs to spare.

Earlier, Pakistan, batting first, saw a promising start from openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq. However, India's bowlers, led by Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, struck timely blows to limit their progress.

Despite a fighting partnership between skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan faced a collapse, ending their innings at 191, thanks to incisive Indian bowling.
