County Championship 2022 Division I | Match 30 Preview, Prediction

With another round of County Championship 2022 Division I starting tomorrow, Lancashire and Essex will be at loggerheads when they collide in match 30 of the ongoing tournament, scheduled on May 19 at Emirates Old Trafford Manchester.

The two teams are currently positioned at the two different ends of the points table. While Lancashire is placed at the second spot with 85 points with two wins and three draws in five games, Essex is at the seventh place with 54 points with one win, one defeat and three draws in five matches.

Dane Vilas and Co will head to the match after a stalemate against Yorkshire. While Keaton Jennings has been running the batting line-up in the last two games, their skipper Vilas has contributed significantly throughout the season.

Although Steven Croft will be coming to the upcoming game on the back of a ton, an issue resides in his consistency. Josh Bohannon is another prominent figure in their batting contingent, but he has looked off-colour since scoring a double-hundred against Gloucestershire.

For Lancashire, their bowlers are the main asset. Hasan Ali and Matthew Parkinson are the top two wicket-takers in the competition, with 24 and 23 wickets, respectively. In addition, Lancashire's veteran pacer James Anderson has hit form and can continue to inflict damage if he plays tomorrow.

Ali did not feature in the last fixture but is expected to be in the playing XI for tomorrow's encounter. Saqib Mahmood has suffered a back stress fracture and is ruled out from the remainder of the season.

Speaking of Essex, they drew their last match against Yorkshire. Alastair Cook's twin tons helped the Tom Westley-led unit in accomplishing a draw.

Essex so far only have one win in their account, that too by a margin of one wicket.

Their batting struggles are hidden from no one. Although Simon Harmer has underperformed with the ball, Shane Snater and Samuel Cook have made up for their teammate's poor form, claiming 15 wickets apiece so far in the season.

PCB accepts NZC's invitation to play a T20I Tri-series in New Zealand

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given the green signal to the proposal of playing a tri-nation series in New Zealand before the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. According to a report published in Cricket Pakistan, a senior PCB official confirmed to the Express that the Babar Azam-led unit would compete in the tri-series as it will help them prepare better for the marquee T20 event. The New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) initiated the proposal for the same during an ICC conference last week. The two-member nations who were offered the invitation were Pakistan and Bangladesh. While the dates for the tri-series are yet to be decided, a window in late September and early October is set to be chalked out. It will be the first time that a T20I triangular competition between full-member nations will take place since 2018. Back in 2018, Australia, New Zealand and England participated in a Trans-Tasman T20I series. During the same year, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka featured in the Nidahas Trophy to commemorate 70 years of Sri Lankan independence. Pakistan also featured in a tri-series that year involving hosts Zimbabwe and Australia, which the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led unit eventually won by beating the Aussies in the summit clash. Pakistan's acceptance of New Zealand's proposal comes at a time when the relations between the two boards aren't ideal. The relations took a nosedive last autumn when New Zealand backed out of their tour of the Asian country on the eve of the first ODI, citing security issues. However, the Kiwis will be back in Pakistan for a full tour later this year. Pakistan and New Zealand were a part of the same group in last year's T20 World Cup. The Babar Azam-led unit emerged victorious in that encounter, but New Zealand had the final laugh as they made their way to the final, while Pakistan could only go as far as the semi-finals.
