Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das starred for Bangladesh as the hosts took a 68-run lead in the first innings of the ongoing Chattogram Test.
Starting Day 4 of the match at 318/3, well-set Mushfiqur and Liton capitulated the Sri Lankan bowlers in the first session of the day. The duo helped Bangladesh coast towards Sri Lanka's first innings total.
Although the Lankan Lions kept a check on the run rate in the morning session, the Tigers still maintained their firm grip over the game and went to lunch at 385/3.
Followed by a sedate first session, it was all havoc in the afternoon, with Kasun Rajitha providing major dents to Bangladesh in the form of Liton and Tamim Iqbal. While Liton fell on the first delivery after lunch, Tamim, who retired hurt yesterday, traced the former's steps back to the pavilion in the following ball.
Mushfiqur, along with Shakib, stitched a handy 36-run partnership, with the significant contribution coming from the latter's bat. Asitha Fernando caused Shakib's dismissal as another Bangladeshi batter fell prey to a short ball.
As Mushifqur was closing in on his eighth Test hundred, he received support from Nayeem Hasan. The Bangladeshi spinner ensured that he survived long enough to hand his side a lead.
Mushfiqur brought his century in style, flicking off Fernando's delivery for a boundary. Finally, however, Lasith Embuldeniya ended his innings as the batter failed to connect a sweep and got bowled.
Dhananjaya de Silva did the trick for Sri Lanka as he removed Nayeem from the crease. Asitha again brought a bouncer out of his repertoire to dismiss Taijul Islam.
Shoriful Islam retired out as Bangladesh got bundled at 465, taking a 68-run lead in the first innings.
While Sri Lankan openers Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne played through the first 10 overs, a terrible mix-up between the two led to the former's undoing.
Nightwatchman Embuldeniya fell off the last over of the day as Taijul's delivery went through the gate and shattered the stumps.
At the end of the day's play, Sri Lanka are sitting at 39/2 in their second innings and still trail by 29 runs.
