Sri Lanka will tour Bangladesh for a two-match Test series scheduled in May. This will be Bangladesh's first home Test series against the Lankan Lions since 2015.
Notably, both teams were to face each other in a Test series in October-November 2020, but the surge of COVID-19 did not allow the matches to occur during that period.
The upcoming Bangladesh-Sri Lanka series will fall under the 2021-23 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. While Bangladesh are currently placed at the eighth position on the WTC points table with a single win in four matches and percentage points of 25.0, Sri Lanka reside at the fifth spot with two wins in three games and 50.00 percentage points.
Talking about the series, the Islanders will arrive in Bangladesh on May 8 and then are scheduled to play a warm-up fixture on May 11 and 12 at MA Aziz Stadium as a part of preparations. Then, the series opener will commence on May 15 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, followed by the second and final Test, starting on May 23 at Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are battling against the hosts, South Africa, in the first Test of a two-match series. After the end of Day-1, Bangladesh have managed to bag only 4 wickets of the Proteas by conceding 233 runs in 76.4 overs.
After the red-ball matches against the Proteas, Bangladesh's players will then head to play the Dhaka Premier League at their home.
