Superstar of West Indies, Dwayne Bravo added yet another jewel to his crown on Thursday night as he leapfrogged Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga to become the leading wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The seam-bowling all-rounder achieved the feat during CSK'S second game of the ongoing season against Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) when he dismissed Deepak Hooda.
It all happened on the second ball of the 18th over when Bravo, who had been hit for a straight six on a rare length delivery he bowled during the innings, once again took the pace off the ball and induced a mistimed hoick at deep mid-wicket.
This was Bravo's 171st wicket of his IPL career, helping him go past the legendary Lasith Malinga to become the all-time most successful bowler in the lucrative league's history.
Malinga, who represented the Mumbai Indians (MI) between 2009-19, claimed 171 wickets in just 121 games at an average of 19.8 and an economy of 7.14.
On the other hand, Bravo has taken 152 games to achieve the same feat. The charismatic West Indian all-rounder, who made his IPL debut for the Mumbai Indians, has been central to Chennai's success story over the last decade.
He has been CSK's most trusted lieutenant at the slog overs, with his slower ball being just as potent as it was a decade ago.
Bravo remains the only cricketer to claim as many as 32 wickets in a single season of the IPL, a feat he achieved during the 2013 season. He has also claimed the coveted Purple Cap twice.
In addition to this, the CSK all-rounder has also orchestrated plenty of match-winning heists for the Whistle Podu gang with the willow.
Bravo also holds the record for most wickets in all T20s. In 523 games, the Trinidad all-rounder has claimed 574 wickets at an average of 24.08 and an economy rate of 8.19 with 11 4-fors and two five-wicket-hauls.
Meanwhile, Bravo's efforts went in vain against LSG as a power-packed 23-ball 55 from Evin Lewis, and a clutch 9-ball 19* from Ayush Badoni ensured that Lucknow chased down 211 with three balls to spare.
