Australia reclaimed the top spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings after they defeated South Africa in a close-fought contest on Thursday. They dethroned Pakistan to achieve the number one status in the rankings.

In the first ODI against the Proteas, Australia brought their A game towards the end to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Despite being 113 for 7, chasing a tricky 223, it was the concussion substitute, Marnus Labuschagne (80*), who stitched a winning partnership alongside Ashton Agar (48*), which sealed the deal for their side.

The record 5 time World Champion, Australia will now face South Africa in the second ODI on Saturday, and will look to continue their winning momentum.

Speaking about Pakistan, who Australia surpassed, the Babar Azam led side became the number 1 ODI team, when they thrashed Afghanistan in a 3-game ODI series recently. Pakistan still have a chance to reclaim the number one spot, if they defeat India on Sunday in the Asia Cup Super 4 clash.

Talking about India, the team currently stands at the third position in the latest ICC ODI rankings, with 114 rating points under their belt.
