Former England coach Andy Flower has been named the new head coach of the London Spirit men’s team. He takes over from Justin Langer, who only lasted one season, during which the Spirit finished second from the bottom in The Hundred tournament.

Flower is leaving the Trent Rockets after spending five years with them. During his time there, he led them to win the title in 2022. He also brings plenty of experience from his years coaching England (2009–2014) and helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru win their first IPL trophy in 2025.

Andy Flower will work again with RCB Director

At London Spirit, Flower will be working again with Mo Bobat, the team’s director of cricket. The two already have a strong partnership, having previously teamed up at Bengaluru to deliver that historic IPL victory. Bobat is confident their teamwork will help improve the Spirit’s fortunes.

"I'm delighted that we've been able to secure Andy's services as our men's head coach. Andy and I have enjoyed a strong working relationship in the past, and I'm looking forward to building something special with him at London Spirit as we enter this new and exciting phase for the franchise," said Bobat, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

With the news now official, Andy Flower shared his excitement about taking on the role. He said he was looking forward to guiding the team and was especially pleased about reuniting with Mo Bobat.

"I'm hugely excited to be joining London Spirit and to be working at the Home of Cricket. It's a real privilege to be part of such an iconic venue and organisation," Flower said.

The Spirit’s men’s team has struggled since the start of The Hundred. They’ve won only 12 of their 38 matches overall, with their best season in 2022 when Eoin Morgan led them to the knockout stage. By contrast, the Spirit’s women’s team has been much stronger, even winning the Women’s Hundred in 2024.
