Cricket is not just about bat and ball, it is also about the voices that bring the game to life and one of those iconic voices is making a stirring comeback in IPL 2025. Alan Wilkins, the beloved cricket commentator and broadcasting veteran, is all set to return to the IPL commentary team after conquering throat cancer.

Alan Wilkins Declared Cancer-Free; Rejoins IPL 2025 Broadcast Team

In an emotional social media post that left fans both teary-eyed and thrilled, the 71-year-old announced that he is cancer-free and ready to get back behind the mic.

“Knowing that I am heading to India 🇮🇳 to work on the @IPL after being given the All Clear from throat cancer by @VelindreCS @VelindreTrust @Velindre makes me feel incredibly blessed. And “young” again! Never Give Up,” Wilkins wrote on X.

From The Field To The Mic, Wilkins Has Seen It All

For those who have grown up with the IPL, Wilkins’ voice is part of the package. Calm, classy, and always insightful, he has been narrating the drama of T20 cricket long before it became the global juggernaut it is today.

It is worth mentioning that Alan Wilkins actually started out as a cricketer. A left-arm medium pacer, he played for Glamorgan and Gloucestershire before injuries cut short his on-field career. Instead of walking away, he switched lanes and walked straight into broadcasting.

Wilkins has also covered rugby, golf, tennis and more across his three-decade-long journey as a sports broadcaster. But it’s cricket, and especially the IPL, where he has become a household name. He has shared commentary booths with some of the game’s biggest legends and been part of IPL’s storytelling right from the early days.

In a tournament full of young stars, big sixes and wild finishes, the return of Alan Wilkins is surely nostalgic. He brings experience, elegance and a voice that feels familiar to cricket fans across the globe. And now, after beating cancer and making a full recovery, Wilkins’ presence behind the mic carries even more weight.
