Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has secured a USD 50,000 sponsorship from local financial institution CABS, specifically earmarked for the nation's five first-class provincial sides. The funding will directly benefit the teams competing in the Logan Cup, Pro50 Championship, and domestic T20.
Crucially, CABS has adopted a direct-to-team funding model. This approach is designed to enhance financial transparency and governance, enabling clearer budgeting and stronger accountability. The funds will support critical areas like coaching, talent development, and player welfare within each province.
Zimbabwe Cricket's MD Hails The Vital Corporate Support
ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni emphasised the significance of the partnership for domestic cricket's foundation and long-term health.
"We are grateful to CABS for coming on board as a valued partner in our domestic cricket journey. This kind of corporate support plays an important role in strengthening the game's foundation and enabling long-term growth," Makoni said in a statement released by Zimbabwe Cricket.
CABS Managing Director Mehluli Mpofu framed the sponsorship as an investment in Zimbabwe's youth and their aspirations.
"This sponsorship is more than support for cricket - it is a commitment to the dreams of Zimbabwe's young people. Across the country, there are talented, passionate youths who see sport as a pathway to opportunity, purpose and pride," Mpofu stated.
The History Between CABS And Zimbabwe Cricket
The sponsorship reinforces CABS' two-decade association with Zimbabwean cricket, dating back to 2004 when it supported T20 competitions. Beyond high-profile events, the institution has "quietly but consistently" backed cricket development initiatives, helping to uncover emerging talent across the country over the past 20 years.
This financial boost arrives during a landmark year for Zimbabwe Cricket. The team has already played seven Tests and recently hosted a T20I tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand. Zimbabwe is set to host New Zealand for two Tests starting July 30.
