Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav participated in the sacred Bhasma Aarti at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain on Tuesday. His visit coincided with Nag Panchami, a significant observance falling within the holy month of Shravan (Sawan), drawing large crowds of devotees to the revered Shiva temple.

Yadav, known for his pace and contributions to the Indian team, expressed a deep personal connection to the deity during his visit to the ancient temple.

Yadav Admits Bhakti For 'Baba'

Speaking on the visit for Bhasma Arti in the month of shravan, Umesh Yadav shared his experience and significance behind the attendance.

"I have a different connection with Baba. Today is Nag Panchami, it is a good day. There can be nothing better than getting his blessings on this day. It is his call. It is said that you cannot come here without him calling you..." Yadav told ANI.

For the unaware, shravan, the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, is considered one of the holiest periods, especially for worshipping Lord Shiva. This year, Shravan began on July 11 and concludes on August 9. Nag Panchami, celebrated during this month, specifically venerates serpent deities.

Umesh Yadav's Career As A Stalwart of Indian Pace

Making his international debut in 2010, Umesh Yadav represented India across all formats. In 141 matches, he claimed 288 wickets at an average of 31.62, with best figures of 6/88. His record includes three five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match haul.

Particularly formidable at home, Yadav took 170 wickets in 57 Tests at an average of 30.95, playing a key role in India's home dominance over a decade. His last appearance for India was in a Test against Australia during the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Yadav Vents Frustration After IPL 2025 Snub

Umesh Yadav, despite having a stellar domestic and international career and glorious 15 years of franchise cricket, went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. While speaking exclusively to InsideSport, Yadav vented his frustration.

"Everyone knows that I wasn’t selected for the IPL this year. I have been playing for 15 years. It (unsold at IPL 2025) is very shocking for me. Why should I lie? It feels bad... I am very frustrated and disturbed. But still, it’s okay. I can’t change anyone’s decision,” said Umesh to InsideSport back in January.

Out of the IPL frame for now, Umesh Yadav is also out of India's fray. Yadav's last international stint was for Vidarbha in SMAT 2024, where he managed to scalp one wicket for an expensive 19 runs in his 1.1 over.
