With ten top-notch teams competing against one another in a round-robin style, the 2023 World Cup is riding on an adrenaline-pumping experience. Matches are coming day in and out and game no. six of the 2023 World Cup will see Netherlands (NED) square off against New Zealand (NZ) in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

The Kiwis dominated the reigning champions by nine wickets to get the tournament off to a flying start. A 273-run second wicket partnership between Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra saw the Kiwis eclipsing England in the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. A target of 283 runs was chased with no major hiccups on the back of two individual centuries.

On the flip side, Netherlands suffered a defeat in their tournament opener against Pakistan. The team did bowl and field well to restrict Pakistan to 286 runs. In pursuit of the chase, Vikramjit Singh did give a good start but ran out of partners until Bas de Leede stepped in. The pair orchestrated runs for quite some time but nobody from the lower middle order succored them. Eventually, they incurred a collapse and saw a defeat by 81 runs.

Netherlands will look to give another fight to a formidable New Zealand unit. Let us have a look at their predicted playing XI against New Zealand.

Openers: Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh

The Netherlands opening combination is likely to include Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd as usual. In the absence of veteran Stephen Myburgh, Vikramjit tailored a superb half-century against Pakistan to lay the bedrock for a chase. But unfortunately, the lower-order did not step up to the potential and they lost. Vikramjit initiated his innings with some elegant strokes that boosted his confidence to crawl forward to a fifty.

On the flip side, O'Dowd is a special player and has an array of shots. He also showed glimpses of his potential in the 2022 T20 World Cup scoring crucial runs for his side. Despite his failure with the bat in the last game, the opener is going to retain his spot.

Middle Order- Wesley Barresi, Scott Edwards, Colin Ackermann, and Teja Nidamanuru

Among the Dutch players, Barresi is one of the most skilled and experienced. He also participated in the 2011 World Cup in India. Although he was absent in the last match, Barresi is likely  to return in  place of Saqib Zulfiqar.

Another man who is a key component of the Netherlands middle-order is Colin Ackermann. The all-rounder can bowl handy part-time and has gathered heaps of runs during the County Championship 2023.  The skipper, Scott Edwards, who can bat anywhere in the order, will join them. Following are his scores versus Afghanistan in the CWL games in Doha: 68 (82) 86 (120) 54 (74). He is one of their top players against spin along with Teja Nidamanuru who is renowned for scoring big runs at crucial junctures.

All-rounders: Bas de Leede, Logan van Beek and Roelof van der Merwe

The backbone of this team is made up of the pace-bowling all-arounders- Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek. Most importantly, the pair can win games with both batting and bowling. In the World Cup Super League, de Leede demonstrated his skills by a superb all-round show and continued the form against Pakistan, scoring 67 runs and claiming four wickets.

Logan on the other hand is slightly doubtful to be in the playing XI as he suffered an injury in the last game. But it is learned that it isn't very serious and he could be a part. He was the man who blasted 30 runs against Jason Holder in the World Cup Qualifiers to drag the game to the Super Over which the Dutch eventually won.

Roelof van der Merwe wis their lead spinner and brings wealth of experience participation across the globe in various tournaments.  The South Afrcian turned Netherlands cricketer was a significant contributor to Sunrisers Eastern Cape's victory in the first edition of SA20.

Bowlers: Paul van Meekeren and Aryan Dutt

The pace batter will be led by Paul van Meekeren who has the ability to snap wickets across various phases of the game. Van Meekeren has been a member of this team for almost ten years and is a match-winner with the cork in hand. With the new ball, the tall pacer can buy a nibble, and he has some excellent slower balls to deceive the opponents at the backend of the innings.

Aryan Dutt was impressive during the practice matches against Karnataka and also showcased his abilities during the warm-up matches of World Cup 2023. He played the game against Pakistan and should get further backing over Shariz Ahmed.
