In the ongoing 2nd ODI between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has regained his lost mojo and brought his top game to Odisha. Notably, England, batting first, put 304 runs on the board, and India got off to a brilliant start courtesy of Rohit Sharma's century.

Before the start of the match, Rohit was under criticism as he was not among the runs in the past few series, and there were cries for him to be removed from the team. It was a crucial game for Rohit, and he did not disappoint. Further, Rohit reached the century in style after he smashed a six to bring his hundred up.

However, unusual scenes occurred at the Barabati Stadium as the hitman did not celebrate his hundred. It was Rohit's maiden hundred in 2 years in ODIs. While the fans were jumping and elated to see their idol get back among runs, Rohit maintained a calm demeanour and just raised his bat, which usually a batter does after reaching a fifty.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on what could be the potential reason behind the hitman not celebrating his century.

A Statement

One of the reason behind the move could be issuing a statement that the job is not over yet. Rohit is coming into the match after a lot of criticism and flak from the fans. Thus, he is hurt and wanted to prove that scoring a century and getting to triple figures wasn't the sole purpose but sealing a win for his side and stay until the end is the ultimate goal.

Rohit is known for big scores with the bat and it could be that he has set a higher bar for him in ODIs and thus didn't celebrate on reaching a hundred and was eyeing a 150+ score or another double century.

It is not the first time that Rohit has had muted celebrations, but previously too on several occasions such as IPL and international cricket, the recent one was his last ODI century in 2023 World Cup, he has opted for such celebrations, signalling that many more are yet to come and a single century isn't the goal and neither a sense of achievement.

Another possible reason could be him being hurt by cricket pundits and netizens targeting him and asking for his ouster, forgetting his past heroics. Even in such a situation, he could have opted for a muted celebration to silence his critics and let his bat talk without showing any sign of animation on the field.
