When the Indian squad was announced for the Australian tour, there was a notable omission as Ravindra Jadeja, the star all-rounder, was snubbed from the tour, and it raised speculation that the team management doesn’t see him in the scheme of things for the World Cup set to take place two years from now.

With Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma being forced to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy for future ODI selections, it is speculated that Jadeja could also be combined with the duo and just like Rohit-Virat, he could be out of reckoning for the ODIs.

Jadeja ends rumours on his ODI retirement plans

After Day 2 of the Delhi Test match against the West Indies, Jadeja attended the post-day presser, and he ended all the rumours about his ODI retirement plans with an eight-word message.

"I want to play 2027 World Cup obviously," Jadeja ended the speculations.

It's always a selection call. Good thing is that selectors and captain spoke to me and explained and i don't understand the reasons. Everyone's dream is to win ODI World Cup," Jadeja said as quoted by journalist Vimal Kumar.

The Jadeja conundrum for India

According to reports, the Gautam Gambhir-led management wants a younger crop of players for the 2027 World Cup, and hence, the trio of Kohli, Rohit, and even Jadeja doesn’t fall in the scheme of things. Interestingly, Jadeja’s ODI performances haven’t dipped and in 2025, the star all-rounder has grabbed 11 wickets in seven ODI games.

Moreover, he was a key factor in India’s Champions Trophy triumph, earlier this year, and purely on the basis of performance, dropping Jadeja doesn’t make much sense.

Several reports have stated that India see Axar Patel as the younger option for Jadeja, and over the years, he has been groomed to become the future number one Indian all-rounder.
