Rajasthan Royals (RR) will once again miss their regular skipper Sanju Samson, who has been ruled out of tonight's IPL 2025 clash vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) due to injury. In his absence, Riyan Parag will continue to lead RR in the tournament.
What Happened To Sanju Samson?
RR captain Sanju Samson sustained a side injury while batting during RR's high-voltage clash against Delhi Capitals. He was retired hurt on 31, while the Royals failed to chase the target, incurring another narrow defeat in the super over.
Since picking up that injury, Samson hasn't participated in the IPL 2025, missing out on two matches on consecutive occasions.
Rahul Dravid Updates On Samson's Rehabilitation
However, RR head coach Rahul Dravid has provided a crucial update on Samson's recovery status.
During the RCB vs RR pre-match press conference in Bengaluru, Dravid revealed that the Royals medical staff are closely monitoring Samson's recovery on daily basis.
"Sanju, I think, picked up a bit of a side issue in the game against Delhi (Capitals), and he couldn't play the last match or this one either. We took the medical advice not to risk him with further travel; two more flights would've been a strain. We kept the physio back with him so we could treat him and try to get him back as quickly as possible. We're monitoring his recovery on a day-to-day basis." Dravid was quoted as saying by India Today.
The former India head coach also went on to say that they don't have a clear picture regarding Samson's comeback to the IPL 2025.
"I don't have a specific timeline for his return, but we're doing everything we can. We've got matches coming up quickly, and then a gap after the 4th. So, we'll just have to wait and see. As of now, he wasn't fit for this match, and that's why he didn't travel to Bengaluru," he added.
Samson's Performance in IPL 2025
Talking about his performance, RR skipper Sanju Samson blew hot and cold in the IPL 2025. Although he kickstarted the season with a clinical fifty, Samson was inconsistent in the rest of the matches, scoring 224 runs at a modest average of 32.
