In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively considering resuming the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as early as next week, following a temporary ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed the board is working towards an immediate resumption, depending on logistical and security clearances.
Although Pakistan violated the ceasefire just hours after its announcement. The board is awaiting government consultation and formal security advisories before confirming the schedule and venues.
IPL 2025 Set For Swift Resumption
The IPL was suspended on May 8 after a serious security threat disrupted the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. The match had to be abandoned mid-way, and the league was subsequently put on hold amid escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Dhumal stated, “Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… we need to work out venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government.”
It is important to note that according to The Indian Express, franchises have already been alerted to remain on standby. Players, many of whom returned to their home cities following the suspension, are being asked to prepare for travel at short notice. The BCCI is expected to meet franchise owners and broadcasters very soon to finalise arrangements.
Will IPL 2025 Resume Next Week?
The board had shortlisted Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad as alternate venues for the remaining fixtures. These cities were chosen for their logistical convenience and security reasons. However, a final decision on this will only be made after clearance from government agencies and local authorities.
The IPL 2025 had reached an advanced stage, with 58 matches already completed before the suspension. Only 12 matches remain, including crucial playoff games and the final. The BCCI is looking for tight 14-day window to wrap up the tournament, ideally starting from next week if all approvals come through.
