Indian opener Shubman Gill notched up his sixth ODI ton, and his first against Australia in the second match of their ongoing series in Indore. The cricketer steamrolled the visitors’ attack with a scintillating 200-run partnership with number three Shreyas Iyer, who himself had a century to show for from India’s huge series-clinching win.

Gill, who also pumped out 74 runs in the series opener in Mohali, claimed that he rode on his recent confidence to unfurl yet another match-winning effort against Australia.

Gill reveals secret behind successful acceleration

Shubman Gill acknowledged India’s huge 99-run win, and stated that it will serve them in good stead, momentum-wise, heading into the 2023 World Cup next month. The batting prodigy, who started out patiently in the initial stages of his Indore innings, claimed that he always had the confidence to cover up later.

Speaking after India’s emphatic win over Australia, Gill said:

“It feels good. Satisfied as a team, we have the momentum at the right time. It depends on the situation, there's definitely some confidence. I can cover up later, and that confidence is because I am scoring at the moment.”

Shubman Gill also praised KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav for their sublime batting efforts following his dismissal, as their splendid half-centuries turbo-charged India’s total to 399-5 from their 50 overs. The opening batsman further commended bowlers for restricting the visitors to just 217 in a rain-affected game, as the ‘Men in Blue’ sealed the series with a game to spare.

“With the way KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav played, they kept the momentum going. A target of 400 was going to be difficult on any surface, and the bowlers came out and did their job.”

Shubman Gill will now turn up for India in their dead-rubber third ODI against Australia in Rajkot on September 27. The cricketer is also slated to appear for his team in next month’s 2023 World Cup at home.
