Former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal was full of praise for Taijul Islam after his brilliant performance in the ongoing second Test match against Zimbabwe in Chattogram. The left-arm spinner took a magnificent five-wicket haul, his 16th in Test cricket, as Bangladesh restricted Zimbabwe to 227 for 7 at the end of Day 1.

Tamim described Taijul as an “underrated” cricketer who has consistently been Bangladesh’s best bowler in the longest format since making his debut back in 2014. The former opener took to Facebook to share a heartwarming post, praising Taijul’s dedication and for being a true asset in Tests for Bangladesh over the years.

“The most underrated bowler in the world at the moment,” Tamim posted on Facebook with an attached photograph of Taijul.

Taijul played an integral part, especially in absence of the great Shakib Al Hassan. He is now Bangladesh’s second-highest Test wicket-taker with 224 scalps in 53 matches, just 22 behind his predecessor. Despite that Taijul rarely receives the recognition he deserves which proves Tamim Iqbal's words correct about the lack of acknowledgement for someone like Taijul in the cricketing world.

Taijul’s Fifer Puts Bangladesh on Top on Day 1 of 2nd Test

After a tough loss in the first Test at Sylhet, Bangladesh bounced back strongly in the second match. After being asked to bowl first, Bangladeshi bowlers responded well, limiting Zimbabwe to 227 for 7 by the end of Day 1.

Taijul Islam led the attack brilliantly with regular wickets, preventing any big partnership which never allowed the visitors to relax. Heading into Day 2, Bangladesh will aim to wrap up the innings quickly and build a solid first-innings lead with the bat.
