Rashid Khan pulled out a remarkable all-round performance to orchestrate an emphatic last-ball win for Gujarat Titans against Rajasthan Royals in match number 24 of the IPL 2024 season.

After conceding just 18 off his four overs during the high-scoring Rajasthan Royals innings, Rashid bashed 24 unbeaten runs with the bat from just 11 deliveries to deliver the knockout punch in the final ball of the match.

Fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round heroics, the Afghanistan-based cricketer later reflected his return to the sport after an injury layoff, and recalled his mindset as a batter during the slog overs of the run-chase.

Rashid Khan speaks after remarkable Gujarat Titans win

While speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Rashid Khan addressed his recent return to competitive cricket after a gap of nearly four months owing to a surgery. The cricketer admitted that he struggled with the ball in his previous few appearances before he finally gained some rhythm through his latest spell.

Rashid also admitted that his economical spell emboldened him to go berserk with the bat during the tense stages of the Gujarat Titans run-chase later in the game. He said:

“Winning the game is more pleasing for me. I was struggling a little bit with the bowling in the last few games, I am really happy that I was pitching the ball in the right area. And that gave me energy in the batting as well. I haven't bowled much in the last 3-4 months after the surgery, just was trying to get used to bowling again, more important was to get that feeling back in my fingers.”

With 35 runs required off the final two overs, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia both flogged Rajasthan Royals bowlers with an impudent streak of boundaries and sixes before Gujarat Titans sealed the deal in the last ball of the match.

When asked about his mindset in such situations of the game, a calm Rashid responded:

“It’s just a matter of hitting two to three sixes, we need to be positive. And that sixes will bring down the run rate. The more positive you think the better result you get.”

Rashid Khan, along with the rest of his Gujarat Titans teammates, will now travel back to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium for their upcoming home game against the Delhi Capitals.

The much-awaited contest marks the match number 32 of the IPL 2024 season, and will be staged on April 17.
