'Should Have Taken Science': Did Axar Patel Really Take a Dig at R Ashwin After WC Snub?

In a controversial fashion, Axar Patel was ruled out of the World Cup 2023 due to a quadricep injury. The Indian all-rounder got hurt ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 final, and missed out on an opportunity to play his first ever World Cup.

In his place, India surprisingly opted for Ravichandran Ashwin, who last played an ODI against South Africa in January 2022. The veteran bowler was a part of the Indian side for the series against Australia, and has now been drafted in the World Cup squad in place of Axar.

Social media went on a frenzy when Ashwin was included in the Indian squad, and it seems Axar isn't too happy with his inclusion.

He recently posted a message on Instagram, which it seems he later deleted.

Here's the message

'Should have taken science instead of commerce and hired a better PR."

Ashwin's inclusion in the squad met with mixed reactions from the fans and experts, but he did back it up with a commanding performance against the Aussies in the recently concluded series.

As far as Axar is concerned, he had a decent track record for India in ODIs, having played 54 matches, and picking up 59 wickets. Moreover, he was a handy lower-order batter, contributing 481 runs at a strike-rate of 101.69.
