In a game that saw some ultimate twists and turns, it turned out to be a fantastic game in Manchester, where India pulled out a draw from the jaws of defeat. Following India's tremendous comeback, skipper Shubman Gill lauded his side's wonderful effort.
Shubman Gill Backs His Side After Historic Performance
The Old Trafford Test in Manchester between England and India in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will long be remembered for the historic comeback that India made after being down halfway through the game.
Trailing by a massive margin of 311, India came back strongly in the third innings with skipper Shubman Gill, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar all scoring their respective centuries to bail India out of trouble as they played five consecutive sessions to avoid an English victory.
After the game, Gill, while speaking to the BCCI.TV expressed his feelings and praised the Indian team's effort in a tough situation. Gill was particularly apprehensive about India's mindset as they batted, eventually taking 143 overs to put up 425 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets and, ultimately, gaining a lead.
"To be able to have that same mindset for 140 overs is very difficult, and that is what differentiates a good team from a great team, and I think we showed that today, that is why we are a great team,"
The Indian skipper further mentioned that this is the difference between a good team and a great team, due to the character they have shown in this encounter.
Gill Picks His Best Knock On The Tour
Following all the trouble, where Indian batters Gill and KL Rahul staged an impressive 188-run partnership for the third wicket, with Rahul scoring a gritty 90, Gill lauded his effort and mentioned that he was quite ecstatic about the fact that they were able to achieve what they wanted from this game. He then termed this victory as satisfying.
"Zero for two and then the partnership between me and KL bhai, I think that's what ignited the belief that yes, we can achieve this task. Extremely, extremely happy. To be able to get a draw from the position that we were in yesterday is extremely satisfying,"
Moreover, when he was asked which of his four centuries in the series were the best, the 25-year-old chose this one over his double hundred at Edgbaston.
"I think this inning of mine was the most pleasing to me."
The fact that Gill has been able to accumulate more than 700 runs in the series is a testament to his ability to bat under pressure, and that, too, with leadership in hand.
The fifth Test of this series will be played at the Oval, where the Indian side will look to redeem themselves and continue their good form, as the match begins on July 31.
