Former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir lauded young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his exceptional hundred in the second Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2.

Jaiswal played a brilliant innings of 179* from 257 balls on the opening day of the second Test in Visakhapatnam against England, yet the opposition managed to strike at regular intervals. India concluded the day at 336/6 on Friday, February 2. In his sixth Test match, the 22-year-old left-hander surpassed his previous best of 171, achieved on his debut in the West Indies last year. Jaiswal's outstanding performance made him the standout performer for India, overshadowing the disappointment of several batters who got starts but couldn't capitalize.

Jaiswal maintained an attacking approach, contributing to India's dominance in the final hour despite losing Axar Patel and KS Bharat. Unfortunately, apart from Jaiswal, no other Indian batter managed to make a significant contribution, as many of them surrendered their wickets after promising starts.

England's debutant Shoaib Bashir and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed took two wickets each. Bashir claimed the crucial wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma, securing his first Test scalp. James Anderson, replacing the injured Mark Wood, added to England's success by dismissing another Indian batter before Jaiswal responded with a counter-attacking performance. In contrast to the previous game, Jaiswal played a well-balanced innings, combining caution with aggression.

Praising Jaiswal's remarkable performance, former ex-Pakistani pacer Amir acknowledged the Indian opener's batting prowess, particularly when his teammates struggled with the bat.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal's century against England is a testament to his remarkable talent. A promising young player making a significant impact on the cricketing stage,”  Mohammad Amir wrote on his ‘X’ Handle.

In contrast to the series opener, Jaiswal ensured he capitalized on his solid start, converting it into a daddy hundred. However, the remaining Indian batters couldn't fully exploit the favorable batting conditions. The left-hander has now notched up two centuries and as many half-centuries in just his 10th Test innings.

At the end of Day 1, Ravichandran Ashwin (5*) was at the crease with Jaiswal. While India can take satisfaction in their scoring rate, England would also be content with having taken six wickets. It can be said that the honors were evenly distributed on the opening day in Visakhapatnam.
