While evaluating RCB's auction strategy in front of former director Mike Hesson, former Australian great Shane Watson quipped that someone in RCB management does not know about cricket as they released Yuzvendra Chahal in IPL 2022 mega auctions.

As IPL went into its first round of mega auctions back in 2022, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were in a fix, and the then Mike Hesson-led RCB management decided to drop Yuzvendra Chahal, one of India's top wrist spinners.

Moreover, RCB's lack of efforts to buy back Chahal in auctions confused the fans and analysts alike.

To rub salt on RCB's wounds, the wrist spinner ended up winning the purple cap in the same year with Rajasthan Royals. Accordingly, Chahal made his way up to return to the national side for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Watson takes jibe at RCB management

Meanwhile, former Australian great all-rounder Shane Watson took shots at RCB in a recent Jio Cinema show to state that RCB management lacks adequate cricketing knowledge; otherwise, they wouldn't have let Yuzi leave in 2022.

"There’s definitely someone at RCB who doesn't know much about cricket. That's why he let Yuzi Chahal go," Watson said on Jio Cinema.

Watson instantly realised that former RCB director Mike Hesson, who was a part of the management that decided to release Yuzi, was standing next to him, and he had to clarify his statement saying he wasn't mentioning Hesson.

"I am not talking about this great man here," Watson clarified.

Notably, months after his exit, Yuzvendra Chahal revealed in a podcast that his auction strategy wasn't communicated well by RCB, and he was left devastated as he wanted to be a part of the franchise for the long term.
