Former South African spinner Paul Adams thinks that Australia's Nathan Lyon is a more complete spinner than legendary Indian bowler Ravichandran Ashwin. Hailed for their ability to bamboozle the batters with wily variations, Ashwin and Lyon have faced each other multiple times and will be pivotal for their respective sides in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Lyon Is Better Than Ashwin Across Conditions: Paul Adams
Meanwhile, South Africa's former spinner Paul Adams, who was famous for his unique bowling action, reckons that Lyon is a better exponent of spin bowling as compared to Ashwin. In a virtual interaction arranged by SA20, Adams opined that Lyon's ability to generate overspin makes him more challenging for batters in the subcontinent as well as Australia and South Africa.
"I still think Nathan Lyon has a more complete game in terms of competing in subcontinent and in Australia or South Africa, those type of conditions, than Ashwin. He (Ashwin) has a carrom ball that can turn the ball the opposite ways. But Lyon has been someone who has bowled with a lot of over-spin. That challenges the batters," Adams was quoted as saying by PTI.
Shami's Absence Will Keep Bumrah Under The Pump In Australia: Paul Adams
Paul Adams, who represented South Africa in 47 Test matches, believes that the absence of Mohammed Shami could put Jasprit Bumrah under immense pressure, with India heavily relying on him for striking at crucial junctures.
"I think he (Shami) will be a major miss for India, given the Australian conditions. The pace and bouncy wickets in Australia would have helped India in gaining an upper hand if Shami had been in the squad. The pressure will be on vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah and other pacers but I believe it will be all-rounders who will play a huge role for India, especially Ravindra Jadeja," he added.
