Pakistan's newly minted Test captain Shan Masood's first task as a leader is more challenging than he could have ever imagined in his wildest dreams. He is set to lead his side against the mighty Australia, and the record is working against him.

Australia have whitewashed Pakistan in each of their previous five Test series held in the former's homeland. Thus, the stakes are high, and Masood, with minimal experience, has been handed the daunting task.

Babar Azam's abrupt resignation from the leadership role prompted PCB to appoint Shan Masood as a replacement. However, fans believed that Masood was being made a scapegoat as he was not yet ready to lead a test side against a quality team.

Shan Masood Hits Back After Being Called 'Scapegoat'

Shan Masood was often referred to as "Qurbani Ka Bakra' by the fans on the internet, and the skipper recently reacted to the same during his first press conference ahead of the Australia series.

Masood said he is embracing the opportunity being handed over to him, and the team is pumped to create history. They are not just touring to win but to put contention for the World test championship finals.

He further reacted to the 'Qurbani Ka Bakra' jibe and said captaincy is temporary. As long as one gets an opportunity to make a difference, he should take the responsibility and relish it. Masood's priority right now is to spread positivity within the group and keep them in a suitable mind space ahead of the big challenge.

"And as far as being qurbaani ka bakra is concerned, the captaincy, playing as a player in the side, these are all temporary things at the end of the day. As long as you are in that place or seat, you should relish the opportunity, enjoy it try and take responsibility, and give your best ability to the team," said Shan Masood.

Having said that, Shan Masood and his team are pumped to put up a brave fight, perform to the best of their ability, and guide Pakistan to a fighting chance, thus defying all odds.

The test series is set to commence on 14th December 2023, and the Pakistan cricket team departed earlier today.
