'Prepare Spinning Wickets At Your Own Demise': New Aussie Captain 'Warns' India

Prepare turning pitches at your own peril, warned Australia's new full-time skipper Alyssa Healy ahead of the much-anticipated India trip as the world champions from Down Under gear up for the marquee series featuring a solitary Test, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Healy cast her eyes on the challenge at hands and underlined the quality of Australia's own spin attack to insist that the ploy to prepare raging turners in an effort to put a stranglehold on the rampaging Aussie batters could easily backfire on the hosts.

The series is scheduled to be played in Mumbai on two of the city's iconic grounds - the Wankhede Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium. While the former plays host to the standalone Test and the following set of three ODIs between December 21-24 and December 28-January 2, the latter is due to witness the T20I leg of the tour on January 5, 7 and 9, respectively.

Healy Underlines Australia's Spin Threat Before India Trip

Speaking to the reporters before departing for the series, Healy, who takes over from recently retired legendary former skipper Meg Lanning, highlighted Australia's own spin arsenal to suggest if the hosts prepare dry turning squares across the trip, they could pay for it badly.

"I’m actually really intrigued to see what sort of wickets they prepare. I think we’ve got a really, really good spin attack, so do that at your own peril."

"Don’t get me wrong, the Indians have got a strong spin attack as well, but we’ve got some of the best leg-spinners in the world. We’ve got Ash Gardner, who took nine wickets on English soil with the ball in hand, so prepare spinning wickets at your own demise."

"It will be interesting to see if they make it nice and flat, but I haven’t played at Wankhede since the IPL exhibition game a couple of years ago, so I’m excited for that experience," she added.
