Former cricketer Ramiz Raja has berated the current Pakistan team management after Shaheen Afridi and co. slumped to a 1-4 T20I series defeat in New Zealand

Raja expressed his concerns over the possibility of a 'strike-rate phobia' within the management and added that new players on the side should give themselves a chance to develop risk-free batting styles.

Earlier this month, the former PCB chairman criticised the team management's decision to break Pakistan's formidable opening pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

Ramiz Raja urges PAK players to enhance strike-rate

The former chairman believes active players and team management have "developed a fear of strike-rate" even though they realise there are limited options in T20 cricket.

Taking to his YouTube channel, the 61-year-old said: “The phobia of strike rate that has gripped the think tank of this team is something I don't understand. It's not clear to me on what basis they have developed this fear of strike rate when you know that your options are limited.”

Raja also urged the younger players to enhance their batting strike rates by developing a risk-free style.

“Even the new players don't seem to understand that they need to give themselves a chance and develop a somewhat risk-free batting style to improve their strike rate, because good teams will put pressure on you and get you out," he added.

Earlier this month, Ramiz Raja had criticised the Pakistan team management for breaking their formidable opening pair of Babar and Rizwan

During the team's five-match T20I tour of New Zealand in January, the Pakistan think-tank experimented with a new opening combination of Rizwan and Saim Ayub, which eventually resulted in underwhelming performances.

Pakistan travelled to New Zealand in January for a five-match T20I series under newly-appointed skipper Shaheen Afridi. Despite employing a change in leadership, the 'Men in Green' lost the five-match rubber by a 1-4 margin to the hosts.
