The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is upon us, and while there might be a buzz amongst cricket enthusiasts, the general public is yet to fall into the hype surrounding the marquee event, which will take place in India in October-November.
The World Cup 2023 begins October 6, and witnesses ten nations battle it out to win the coveted trophy, which England are currently holder of.
Responding to a post on social media platform 'X', India's leading Test off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin explained that excitement will build up during Asia Cup 2023, which kicks off on August 30.
Ashwin further reminisced about getting printed World Cup fixtures cut-outs during his school days.
WC's excitement will kick with Asia Cup: Ashwin
"It’s a bit too early and I am sure it will kick in once the Asia cup begins. The World Cup fixtures used to come out in small calendar type prints and I used to take it to school to discuss India’s games. Happening on Social media now and that’s a good thing cos more people can get involved."
The lack of clarity over the schedule and constant back-and-forth by ICC and BCCI in announcing the tournament itinerary managed to bring down a lot of anticipation among fans.
The ICC have roped in Bollywood superstar and co-owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Shah Rukh Khan as brand ambassador.
