Just a few hours left for the biggest showdown of Women’s cricket as the 13th edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup is coming back. With warm-up matches underway, teams are gearing up eagerly to claim glory on the big stage.
Ahead of stepping onto the big stage, the Bangladesh Women have set their eyes on high. At the Captain’s Day event, skipper Nigar Sultana Joty shared their big aim for the upcoming mega event.
Nigar Sultana Joty sets an ambitious goal ahead
As the Women’s ODI World Cup was inaugurated in 1973, the Bangladesh Women made a late entry into the tournament. Making an entry in the marquee tournament last year, they had a forgettable outing. In seven matches, they faced six defeats and ended the campaign with only one win.
The Women’s World Cup 2025 is set to go live on September 30, and the Captain’s Day took place on Friday. Bangladesh Women’s skipper Nigar Sultana Joty revealed their bold new goal, leaving past performances behind as they gear up for the big stage.
“This is our second ODI World Cup, and earlier we were inexperienced and unfamiliar with winning on a big stage. However, since then, we have played a lot of cricket … and now we know how to win matches in tournament settings,” she added.
Fans' support fuels the team’s drive
Since their first mark in 2022 in World Cup, the team has evolved significantly, and even Bangladeshi fans have shown a great deal of interest. They secured some thrilling victories and also faced some heartbreaking defeats. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty shared how the unwavering support from home fans has brought the team closer to their World Cup dreams.
“We are aware of our responsibility to promote cricket back home, where interest in women's cricket is growing. We believe it is time to give back to our supporters through our performances,” she said.
As the marquee event is just a few steps away, the Bangladesh Women are all set to face the Pakistan Women in their inaugural match on October 2. Aiming a successful season ahead, they are ready to embrace al the challenges.
