Former Indian cricketer and current skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni, has been one of the coolest personalities on the field, however, even the person with the calmest demeanour has let his emotions out on a few but very rare occasions.

Speaking during the International League T20 (ILT20) in UAE, Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana narrated an incident involving the CSK skipper last year after the IPL finals in 2023. The off-spinner expressed that MS made a quirky remark, but it was indeed crucial in terms of his performance on the field.

Theekshana mentioned that he and Matheesha Pathirana were about to return back to Sri Lanka after the finals when MS approached him after the party and gave him a warm hug while saying that he won't be bowling in the nets; instead, he should be focusing on his batting and fielding next season.

“Right after the finals, Matheesha (Pathirana) and I had to leave. We had a party after the final, and when we were about to leave, we met MS (Dhoni) to say goodbye. He hugged me and said, ‘Next time, no bowling for you. Only batting and fielding’,"

This was in relation to the fact that Theekshana had a relatively poor season on the field where he put down 4-5 catches, and as a matter of fact, the Sri Lankan acknowledged this while taking full responsibility. Additionally, he said the best part about it was that he didn't drop him and instead ensured that he improved.

“Last year, I wasn’t pretty good in the field. I dropped 4-5 catches, and I take responsibility for that. Still, they had confidence in me. They didn’t drop me. It is easy to play with him because of that. He knows people can make mistakes, and he gives them chances to improve. That’s the good part about him.”

Currently, he is part of Sharjah Warriors, where Maheesh is the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 11 wickets so far in just five games as he will hope to continue that form for the Super Kings in IPL this year which could well be MS Dhoni's last season.
