Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli hung up his Test boots on May 12 after 14 long years of playing the game in Whites. His decision to step away from Test cricket came shortly after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, marking a significant transition for Indian cricket. 

Kohli was lauded by cricketing greats and fans alike for his contribution to Test cricket. Among the many tributes pouring in, former South African batting great Hashim Amla took to Instagram to congratulate Virat Kohli on his outstanding Test career. 

Kohli Receives Moving Note from Amla

Amla who saw Kohli shoulder him in many of his batting records, shared the heartfelt message on his official Instagram account.

“Congrats on an amazing Test career @virat.kohli. As an opponent there was never a moment to rest whilst you were batting and or even whilst waiting for you to bat. Always competitive and that truly enriched each game with the art of determination, skill and excellence. Undoubtedly one of the greats of the game and a joy to watch. We thank you for all the Test entertainment and long may it continue in the other formats. Well done.”

Amla's Decorated Test Career

Hashim Amla himself retired from all forms of cricket in January 2023 after a distinguished career spanning over 15 years. He played 124 Tests for South Africa, scoring 9,282 runs including 28 centuries, making him the second-highest Test run-scorer for his country. Amla was a formidable opponent and a respected contemporary of Kohli during their overlapping international careers.

Amla’s warm wishes highlight the mutual respect between two of the modern era’s finest batters. As Kohli closes the chapter on his Test career, Amla’s tribute serves as a reminder of the high standards and fierce competition that defined their era, enriching the game for fans worldwide.
