‘Main Toh 29 Saal Ka Young Ladka Hu…,’ Hasan Ali Rejects Fan Request For Retirement

Pakistan speedster Hasan Ali was excluded from team’s expanded line-up for the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. The cricketer played his last ODI for Pakistan more than a year ago in Multan with a match against West Indies.

Moreover, Ali has not been considered for any international for his country since his Test appearance at home against New Zealand in January this year.

With an exuberant rise of emerging fast bowlers in Pakistan’s ever-expanding talent pool, an enthusiastic fan recently asked Hasan Ali to announce retirement from both forms of international white-ball cricket. The speedster responded to the fan in his own style, pretty much confirming that he will not be making such an announcement anytime soon.

A Pakistan cricket fan recently took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared a clip of Peshawar Zalmi star Arshad Iqbal and his fast-bowling brilliance. In the caption, the said fan praised young Iqbal for generating thunderous pace and asked team discard Hasan Ali to make way for youngsters by announcing his retirement.

Ali acknowledged Iqbal’s talent, however, rejected the retirement request by saying that he himself is only a “29-year-old boy” at the moment. Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy alumni wrote:

“No doubt Arshad is very good bowler, Lekin main kyu retirement du don main tuh just 29 saal ka young ladka hon 😢”

(No doubt Arshad is a very good bowler. But why should I retire, I am just a 29-year-old boy at the moment)

It remains to be seen if Hasan Ali will be considered for a surprise comeback into the Pakistan squad for next month’s ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The ‘Men in Green’ recently coped back-to-back defeats at the hands of India and Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup, where front-line pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah also slumped to injuries.

Shah will likely skip Pakistan’s initial World Cup 2023 matches if he fails to attain full recovery on time.
