Ravichandran Ashwin's wife Prithi Narayan penned down an emotional Instagram post upon the cricketer's return to India playing duties on Day 4 of the Rajkot Test, stating she is "insanely proud" of the man who had withdrawn from the fixture after Day 2 because of a medical emergency back home.

Despite achieving the colossal 500 wickets milestone late on the second evening of the Test match, Ashwin prioritised his family by opting out of the fixture upon learning that his mother was down with illness. The BCCI and the team management allowed the cricketer a leave and urged the fans and media to respect his choice and privacy in this difficult hour.

Prithi revealed the difficult hour stretched to nearly two days as Ashwin quickly travelled from Rajkot to Chennai and from there back to the game for his team once he had a more positive medical update back home with the BCCI arranging a charter flight for one of India's finest contemporary players.

Prithi's Emotional Post For R Ashwin

As he rejoined the team after tea on Day 4 in Rajkot, Ashwin wasn't required to do much of the bowling duties since his spin partners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav ran riot against the England batters. He was only required to bowl 6 overs, in which he took his 501st scalp as India won by a jaw-dropping 434-run margin.

"We chased the 500 to Hyderabad, it didn't happen. To Vizag, it didn't happen. So I just bought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home at 499. 500 came and went quietly. Till it didn't. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48hours of our lives," Prithi wrote.

"But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What a phenomenal guy. I am insanely proud of you. We love you," she added.

Initially it wasn't clear as to which medical emergency Ashwin had withdrawn from the Test match for until BCCI secretary Rajeev Shukla tweeted about the cricketer's mother battling illness on Saturday (February 17).
