India will lock horns with their old rival, New Zealand, in the first semifinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 15, at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

The two teams had faced each other in the 2019 World Cup semifinal at Manchester, with the Black Caps emerging victorious by 18 runs in a match played over two days due to rain interruption.

The Men in Blue are now on a mission to avenge their 2019 semifinal loss to New Zealand while also aiming to put an end to their decade-long ICC trophy drought by bringing the World Cup home.

In the lead-up to the high-stakes game, Captain Rohit Sharma of Team India spoke to the press, shedding light on several factors, with one being the impact of the toss. Here's what the Mumbai batter said on being asked about the toss factor in Wankhede Stadium:

“I have played a lot of cricket here. The last four or five games won't tell me what Wankhede is. So the toss is not a factor.”

Notably, Rohit Sharma, hailing from Mumbai, boasts an extensive cricket history at Wankhede Stadium. Having played domestic cricket for Mumbai and a long-standing tenure with Mumbai Indians, he has broken a plethora of records at the iconic venue.

In the ongoing World Cup 2023, Wankhede Stadium has hosted three matches so far, each witnessing high scores, suggesting its traditionally batting-friendly nature. If there's any assistance for bowlers, it's likely to favour the pace bowlers.
