In a thrilling day of cricket at Rajkot, debutant Sarfaraz Khan showcased his talent with the bat, earning praise from teammates and opponents alike. Making his senior team debut after consistent performances in the domestic circuit, Sarfaraz's innings of 62 runs off 66 balls featured nine boundaries and a six, proving his mettle on the big stage.

Facing early nerves, Sarfaraz found comfort in a crucial partnership with seasoned player Ravindra Jadeja. Despite facing a barrage of short-pitched deliveries from England's Mark Wood, Sarfaraz credits Jadeja's support and constant chatter for helping him settle into his innings.

"I spoke to him at Lunchtime and told him to talk to me while playing... keep talking to me while playing," Sarfaraz revealed, emphasizing the importance of communication on the field.

Acknowledging the challenges of debuting in Test cricket, Sarfaraz emphasized the importance of spending time in the middle, a strategy that saw him capitalize on scoring opportunities, particularly against England's attacking field placements.

“I have been doing this for a long time... I played freely on the loose balls with a single plan," Sarfaraz explained, demonstrating his confidence at the crease.

However, a mix-up with Jadeja saw Sarfaraz fall victim to a run-out, ending his promising innings prematurely. Downplaying the incident, he remarked,

"It is part of the game. Miscommunication happens in cricket."

The young player was greeted and congratulated by England assistant coach Paul Collingwood as he left the press conference room. Collingwood later praised the right-hander for his "courage" on debut.

Meanwhile, India displayed dominance on the opening day of the third Test at Rajkot, finishing at 326/5. Skipper Rohit Sharma led the charge with a magnificent century, scoring 131 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 110*.
