West Indies cricket legend, Sir Garfield Sobers heaped praise on Indian batter, Virat Kohli. Sobers also reckoned that he doesn’t feel surprised by Kohli’s astonishing batting stats. This acknowledgment came during a conversation with Rev Sportz as India faces West Indies in a crucial three-match ODI series.

Kohli's exceptional form in the Test series against West Indies was followed by an unexpected demotion in the batting order during the opening ODI in Barbados while he was rested for the second match. Despite the absence, Kohli's skill with the bat has remained undiminished, prompting high praise from Sobers.

Sobers praised Kohli's skills, approach, attitude, and overall performance, stating that he was never surprised by the number of runs Kohli scored.

“I think he is a good player. He plays very well, and I’ve never been surprised by the amount of runs he has scored,” stated Sobers as he highlighted Kohli's consistent ability to produce runs.

The two cricketing greats had the opportunity to meet before the first Test match against West Indies, engaging in a brief conversation. Kohli undoubtedly found inspiration in the words of the legendary cricketer as seen in his exemplary performance during the Test series.

When asked about Kohli breaking all batting records in international cricket, Sobers responded that cricket can be unpredictable, and there are also skilled bowlers and players who can do remarkable things with the ball.

The Windies veteran implied that playing with such talented individuals can inspire improvement, and with enough skill and dedication, a player can eventually reach new heights in the game.

“Well, I wouldn’t say that because sometimes the game can become very funny. You can have some bowlers that are good too. And you have players who can do certain things with the ball at times and you don’t even think about. You have been playing often with these types of players, and if you are good enough, eventually you will rise,” added the erstwhile cricketer.

As India prepares for the third ODI with the series tied 1-1, all attention will be on Kohli's return. He is on the brink of reaching a remarkable milestone, being just 102 runs away from surpassing 13,000 runs in ODIs. Given his outstanding form, it won't be a shock if he achieves this feat in the decisive final match.
