Following the embarrassing defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the BCCI introduced a few strict guidelines for the players, limiting their independence on the tour. Notably, in the new policies, players' families can only accompany them for just 14 days in a 45-match tour.
The strict guidelines have created panic within the team as the internet is also divided on the opinion that families can be a distraction for the players. While several pundits have spoken against this new rule, the latest to join the bandwagon is England skipper Jos Buttler.
Buttler, who is presently in India for the upcoming T20I series that starts on Wednesday, spoke to the press, where he was indirectly asked by the reporters to present his views on having families on the tour.
Buttler's Take On Having Families On Cricket Tours
Meanwhile, Buttler didn't shy from the question and spoke in favour of having families on tours. Jos remarked that families have no effect on a player's performance on a tour.
“I think it’s important. We live in a day and age now, which is a very modern world, and I think it’s great to be able to have families on the tour with you and try and enjoy that. There’s a lot of cricket, people spend a long time away from home, and I think post-COVID all that’s been highlighted as well. Absolutely, I don’t think it affects the cricket too much," Buttler said.
“I think it’s something that is very manageable. Personally, from my point of view, I think it’s really important to try and be able to share that with your family and lighten the load on being away from home," he explained.
Buttler Speaks On T20Is As Preparation For Champions Trophy 2025
Buttler also responded to reporters' query on England playing T20Is before Champions Trophy, to which Buttler remarked that the upcoming T20Is won't affect Three Lions' preparations for Champions Trophy 2025.
"It's going to be a great series against a really top side in their own conditions. There's loads to look forward to. I'm not worried about schedules at the moment. I'm just looking forward to playing some games. I think it's going to be a really exciting T20 series. Obviously, there's some ODIs to follow, so yeah, I'm just looking forward to the games," he added.
India and England will lock horns for the first T20I at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22.
