Mumbai Indians (MI) can go to extreme lengths to reserve the services of their desired picks in the Indian Premier League (IPL), claimed premier India and Rajasthan Royals (RR) off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who recalled a shocking story from the time he was leading Punjab Kings (PBKS) to back his accusation.

Ashwin, who captained the Punjab franchise in the 2018 and 2019 editions of the marquee T20 league, recalled MI seeking trade involving the then Punjab maverick David Miller for the next edition of the tournament, having identified him as one of their likely match-winners.

The deal didn't materialise ultimately, but Ashwin recalls gauging MI's mentality when it comes to their favourite players as they were willing to pay out whatever money PBKS would've wanted to fetch Miller's services before the auction.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin also revealed how MI have always carried a competitive vibe and attitude towards arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and wish to always get one-up on them in the IPL. Both the franchises form one of IPL's stiffest rivalries and have won the title five times apiece.

"One person working in MI told me that MI always look upto CSK as their competition. They try to win 2 more than CSK and they will go to any extent for that. Once they asked miller from us. We asked which player you would give, they replied ‘how much ever money you want'," Ashwin said.

MI were recently in the news for an eye-catching trade involving the return of their premier allrounder Hardik Pandya after two successful years as captain and player with Gujarat Titans (GT).

The Mumbai-based side paid a hefty sum worth INR 15 crores plus an undisclosed transfer fee to make sure Titans were okay releasing Pandya and even traded away their previous marquee pick Cameron Green, whom they had purchased for a whopping 17.50 crores at last season's auction, to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with the intention to clear purse available to cater to the Pandya comeback.
