Pakistan Women’s cricket team captain and impactful all-rounder Nida Dar recently revealed that her decision to become an all-rounder was deeply influenced by none other than Pakistan’s cricket legend, Shahid Afridi.

Nida Dar succeeded Bismah Maroof to become the captain of Pakistan Women cricket team a while ago. She is currently leading her team in one of the most competitive tournaments of Women’s Asian Cup.

While PAK-W lost the tournament opener to IND-W, Group A is still wide open for them to make a comeback.

That being said, in a candid conversation, Nida Dar shared how Afridi’s dynamic style of play inspired her to take up cricket as a profession.

Growing up in Pakistan, Nida Dar was captivated by Shahid Afridi’s explosive style and charismatic presence on the cricket field. She revealed that Afridi indirectly introduced her to the sport, and since then, she has decided to become an all-rounder.

"I was inspired by Shahid Afridi, I started playing cricket after watching him and wanted to be an all-rounder. I always thought if boys could play cricket in Pakistan, why not girls?" Nida Dar said.

Despite being raised in a conservative country like Pakistan, Nida Dar was never held back by her family. They supported her unconventional dream, and Dar, on her part, didn’t disappoint.

Her efforts paid off as she developed into a versatile player capable of changing the course of a match with both her aggressive batting and crafty off-spin bowling.

That being said, in Women’s Asia Cup 2024 edition, Nida Dar is tasked to lead Pakistan Women team. Her responsibilities have tripled and her veteran presence will undoubtedly play an important role in PAK-W’s campaign.
