Zaheer Khan lifted up the spirits of Rohit Sharma & company after India's heartbreaking loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 by reminding everyone of the dominance exhibited by the tournament hosts until the summit clash in Ahmedabad.

The former pace spearhead highlighted India's impeccable campaign before the loss to Australia at the Motera Stadium, featuring ten consecutive victories, including nine successive triumphs in the league stage and a comprehensive win against New Zealand in the semifinal against New Zealand.

Zaheer put the spotlight on the batting and bowling charts for the tournament and underlined multiple Indian names that climbed up the ladder in either skill over the past month against the world's best opposition line-ups.

Zaheer lauds Team India despite World Cup Final loss

While the legend duo of Virat Kohli (765) and Rohit Sharma (597) were up there in the list of top run-getters for the competition, Mohammad Shami (24), Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja (16) were outstanding on the bowling front in what was a high-scoring World Cup.

"Look at the top 10 players (in either skill) and you'll see only Indian players," Zaheer told Cricbuzz."There is Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and with bowlers also out of the top 10 you have these three bowlers (Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja) and Kuldeep is also not far behind."

"They have done all the things right, they have got everything to show for their effort except the World Cup," he added. "That's the kind of cricket they have played and that is why you can't be overly disappointed also. Yes, they deserved to be the winners and title holders. But that's the way World Cups go."

The dignified former cricketer urged the players to chin up, take the bitter feeling in their stride and move on, insisting knock-out cricket can be cruel and harsh since it requires everything to go your way on the day. Zaheer played a final like that in the 2003 edition of the World Cup, for which the cricketer had to wait eight more years to make amends and become the 2011 champion.
